Company Profile

Naturediet – Made by people who care, for people who care.

Originating in 1974, Naturediet has come to be recognised for it’s excellence in natural pet food production. The range currently displays ten products, including a lifestyle range of herbal products. The unique moist recipes are meat based using poultry, lamb and fish materials only, together with fresh vegetables and brown rice. Presented as a complete ready meal in a hermetically sealed polypropylene tray, Naturediet is a highly palatable and appetising food to feed even the fussiest of feeders.

Time for Change

Throughout Naturediet’s 30 year history, the cooking process has been based upon pressure cooking, whereby the sealed packs were gently steam-cooked, thus sterilising the mixed ingredients whilst retaining all of the natural flavour, aroma and goodness.

Development is an on-going process and the company is constantly looking at materials and production processes to benefit the health of the pet. This has led, after several years of research and development to a new process of production.

Mr Robin Orrow, Chairman and founder states:

“For years we have seen a steady increase in the number of pets suffering from skin problems and so called allergies. One avenue of our research led us to look at the severe nature of the production process in conventional pet food manufacturing,  particularly where meat meals were used, which have been themselves subjected to high temperature and lengthy processes. These processes by their nature damage the protein structure and DNA and when fed to the animal, the immune system reacts to this changed protein structure, resulting in the symptoms of an immune response often confused with an allergy.

In designing the new production process, one of our prime directives was to minimise the damage to our raw materials. This has resulted in our designing and building a fully aseptic high speed cooking plant which enables us to process our raw materials to sterilisation and into the pack in a total time of 4 minutes. We believe this is faster than any other system currently in use in the pet food or even human food sector”.

The aseptic method for production involves flash cooking, thus reducing the denaturing effects that long drawn out processes can invoke. The result is a food that has been sterilised and made safe but with minimal destruction of the amino-acid complex, in a natural form that the dogs will thoroughly enjoy.

The Way Forward

A purpose built, state of the art production facility has been constructed in Thetford, Norfolk, UK; with its excellent road links, these premises will provide extensive warehousing and storage facilities, offices and the new innovative production facility.

Alongside the new and exciting production method, Naturediet are also launching their new easy to open ‘Peel Back’ packaging. The heat-sealed packaging had always been an issue for the end-user, as it was deemed to be messy and inconvenient when compared to a foil pack or ring-pull can, but Naturediet’s customers will now find a wholly convenient product to feed to their pets.

Naturediet's new production facility has also given provision to expand its production into the future with a greatly enhanced capacity. New products are planned in the near future and with the increased capacity the company will also start production later this year with a range of cat foods, something which until now has proven impossible with the ever increasing demand for the dog food range. To provide Cats with a good natural source of nutrition will be welcomed by all those that have come to trust in the Naturediet name and seen the benefits associated with its feeding to their dogs.

Export and Europe:

Carol Wilcox, Managing Director reports that the company now exports its products to

14 countries and demand is growing by the month. With the new factory capacity the company is now in a position to supply this growing demand and aims to set up a dedicated European export company to service this market. A new bottom labelling system has been installed into the production line enabling the application of dedicated language labels for each area of Europe.

The company will have dedicated warehouse facilities based in Holland and will be headed by Renske Van de Berg a well respected figure in the European pet trade.

Certification

With the seal of approval from the BUAV (British Union against Vivisection) “No Animal Testing” Pet Food Standard’ and certification from BAHNM (the British Association of Holistic Nutrition and Medicine) the first moist pet food manufacturer to be approved, Naturediet really is the food for health.
